Q-1. What is Onco-Regulon?
Ans- Onco-Regulon is a database for cancer regulatory regions. This database is a full repository of annotated cancer genes and their regulatory regions where they implicated in human genome. This database contain many transcription factor binding sites with their transcription factor, chromosome no., starting and ending position in human genome. And these transcription factor binding sites can search in this database by their gene names. When a user gives a gene name (first confirm that the gene you are giving to search box is present in given list) to search box then it give the entire transcription factor with all sites for that particular gene. This database contains thousands of transcription factor binding sites for thousands of cancer causing genes, a user can take these binding sites and extends these sequences into Genefreq. Then a user can use these new generated sequences as a potential drug target for cancer.
Q-2. Why we created this database?
Ans- To make a full repository of all possible cancer genes and to provide all the molecular and clinical information about a particular entry of genes that can cause cancer in human being also a reason to create this database. Cancer is a fatal disease and cause lacs of deaths every year.
Q-3. What is unique about Onco-Regulon?
Ans- There are so many databases available on the web that contain the information about cancer genes, but till the date there is no repository that can give the information about the regions where a tumor starts to express or we can say we are providing the information about the transcription factor binding sequences related to all possible cancer genes. These regions are collected from different database and literature search, on the basis of these targets we are also providing a tool name Genefreq that can calculate the frequency of nucleotide sequences in human genome.
